Both the Atlantic Highlands & Highlands boroughs of Monmouth County are picturesque coastal towns in New Jersey, they’re not only known for their stunning views of the New York City skyline and rich maritime history but also for their burgeoning pizza scene. This article takes you on a culinary journey through each town’s finest pizza establishments, where every slice tells a story of tradition, innovation, and community.

Amici Pizzeria: A Hidden Local Gem

In the charming town of Atlantic Highlands, Amici Pizzeria stands out as a beloved destination for pizza enthusiasts. This hidden gem isn't just a place to grab a slice; it's a testament to family tradition and culinary passion. The driving force behind Amici Pizzeria is a wonderful family, Anthony and Melanie Fabbri who are parents to four young children and pour every ounce of their soul into the business.

Anthony Fabbri is a second generation pizza maker who was inspired by his father Silvio, a skilled pizzaiolo who founded the popular Umberto’s Pizzeria in Fair Haven NJ. From a young age, Anthony was immersed in the art of crafting the perfect pizza. Learning from his father, he follows his family values of hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to quality. These lessons became the foundation upon which Anthony built Amici Pizzeria.

Today, Amici thrives on high-quality ingredients and traditional methods, evident in every hand-tossed dough and carefully selected topping.

The menu boasts a mix of classics like Margherita pizza and creative options like a Bianca pie with an everything bagel crust, along with salads, subs, pastas and appetizers. The fried gnocchi and the bee's knees knots are local favorites!  The warm, welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and the aroma of freshly baked pizza make dining at Amici special. You can also rent out a private dining space for parties or come see one of their pop up events like open mic night!

The Fabbri family also gives back to the community, participating in local events and fundraisers, supporting schools, charities and organizations. They also have partnerships with growing local small businesses to market and offer products in their shop. This commitment reflects their belief in the importance of community.

Amici Pizzeria is a testament to Anthony and Melanie’s passion and perseverance, offering a dining experience that celebrates family and tradition. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a trip to Amici promises a heartwarming and delicious meal. Amici means “friends” in Italian, and that's exactly the atmosphere Anthony and Melanie cultivated with Amici Pizzeria, when you enter their establishment you’re immediately treated like family!

Franny's Pizzeria & Restaurant: Where the Jersey Shore Begins

Let’s not forget the neighboring town of Highlands NJ. Tucked away on the charming Bay Avenue, Franny’s Pizzeria & Restaurant stands as a testament to family tradition and culinary passion. Owner Mya Anitai delivers a fresh take on a neighborhood BYOB hangout, with indoor seating as well as an outdoor dog friendly patio-garden.

Franny’s Pizzeria & Restaurant isn’t just a place to grab a slice—it’s a cornerstone of the Highlands community, rooted in a deep commitment to quality and family values. Mya, the driving force behind the establishment, took a 40 year classic pizzeria and has made it a modernized must-visit pizza spot at the very tip of the Jersey shore.

The pizzeria’s success is attributed to its unwavering focus on using the freshest ingredients and maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere that resonates with locals and visitors alike. Mya emphasizes the importance of keeping the family’s culinary traditions alive, which has been central to Franny’s identity since its beginning.

One of Franny’s must-have pies are the oil-pressed, square, Grandma style pizzas. The Tipsy Nonna is a community favorite with thin, crispy crust, topped with delicious creamy vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella and a touch of basil - this pie will keep you coming back for another slice of Franny’s Granny.

Through community engagement and a genuine love for serving delicious food, Franny’s Pizzeria has carved out a special place in the hearts of its patrons. Mya has also created specialty events, like dog friendly pizza get togethers, collaborations with local chefs for tasting menus, wine pairings, sip-n-swaps for artwork and more. There's always something going on at this local hot spot. For my NYC Commuters, you’re in for a treat, Franny’s pizza is available on select Seastreak Ferries to and from NYC.

As Franny’s continues to thrive, it remains a shining example of how a family’s commitment to excellence and community can create a lasting legacy in the competitive world of pizza.
